    15 Years isn't Long Enough

I do wish they aged more like torts. We take our little pup everywhere we can.

    Help, possible incorrect husbandry!

I'm a redfoot tortoise owner(they don't need a basking lamp)so I can't help much with that. I just know mercury vapor bulbs are no good for all torts.

    Help, possible incorrect husbandry!

I would not use the basking bulb you have if it's a mercury vapor bulb. Those are bad for tortoises.

Help and advice needed- red footed tortoise

In my enclosure a 10% after 4 months of use at roughly this torts height it was something like 2.2, I'm running a 12% now the 10% was getting too weak for mojo's height.

Help and advice needed- red footed tortoise

I don't know if I would go less than 10% at 2ft high, with the height of his shell as the 10% gets weak it should still last longer than the 6%.

Help and advice needed- red footed tortoise

Don't use heat mats, redfoots need heat from above not below. 100w CHE's A dark Rubbermaid or bucket big enough for him to fit in. Flipped upsidedown and clutch a doorway for him. Is a good hide. He needs a flood light. A led 5500K to 6500K is good to simulate daylight hours on a 10-12 hr...

New red foot need help with enclosure

The CHE's can't be that close to the tortoise. And the closer the uvb light is to the tortoise the stronger it is so if you went with a 1ft tall one after adding roughly 3" of substrate plus the light fixtures to the top of the tortoise shell will be around 6" the 12% uvb bulb will almost be the...

New red foot need help with enclosure

No I used short screws that didn't poke through the top. I also use 2 CHE's on separate thermostat controllers. I maintain 83-84°

New red foot need help with enclosure

It's roughly 20" from mojo's shell. I mounted it right to the top. I adjust the bark level a little bit to keep the uv rays in range. It would probably be easier to hang it from some small chains so you can adjust it as needed for uv strength. With a new 12% bulb it's in the higher range of the...

    Enjoying my little guy!!

Your little tort looks great. A few words of advice, get rid of the moss if they eat it, they can get impacted. The water and food dish is best to use terracotta saucers and sink them into the substrate so the tortoise can walk right in. Also the disc style temperature/humidity gauges are not...
