Thinking of putting tort in "Florida room" with lots of sun and a heater, but no AC. It gets pretty hot in the summer. Would tort be ok in there or can it get too hot for her?
Any ideas for making an indoor enclosure look nice without paints and stains?
Enclosure is impossible to move outside, and I don't want to expose tort to fumes. Enclosure is open top, 6x3.
I am thinking of doing a few stencils on the exterior of my tort's indoor enclosure. She stays inside normally. If I took her outside while painting, and used no VOC paint, would it be safe to bring her back in a few hours later?
I've had my Russian, Henry, for over 5 years and she is my only pet. We are also considering a dog, but are worried about their interaction. Any tips? So worried a dog might decide she is a chew toy!
I just noticed tiny green balls in my supposedly organic soil used in my Russians enclosure. When squeezed, it releases liquid and white powder. Will this harm my tort? I recently witnessed her eat one, should I be worried? What kind of organic soil is recommended? I've been using Miracle grow...
I'm about to order a Zoo Med ReptiSun 10 UVB tube flourescent bulb for my enclosure, but don't know what wattage to get. They come in 15, 18, 30 and 36 watt. It's for a 3' by 3' indoor enclosure, for my Russian tortoise. Any advice would be helpful!
Hello,
I am switching from an MVB light to a tube shaped UV, and have a question about how to hang over an open top pen. Currently our MVB light has a hook on top, and we hang it over the middle of the enclosure with a long hook. Are there any tube style light frames that can hang from the top...
My Russian's urates have been tinted orange for the last several weeks. Should I be concerned? She has had some orange-colored food like carrots and pumpkin, but it's been almost a month since she's eaten that.
Hello all,
I have an odd question. I found an orphaned baby mouse in my basement, and am trying to recuperate it, at least so it's healthy and grown enough to release back into the wild. I know mice can carry all sorts of nasty things, so I'm keeping it well away from my Russian tort...
Hello,
Given the season availability of fresh pumpkins, I'd like to buy some to cut up, freeze, and use as treats for my Russian Henry. My question is, is it okay to feed non-organic fresh pumpkins? I haven't even seen any organic versions available - do they even exist?
Thanks!
:tort:
I've planted some Russian seed mix from Carolina pet supply, and this is what I get (see pic attached).
It seems like it's just some spindly grasses, and nothing else. Is this what it's supposed to look like? I was sure to seed very lightly. I'm not sure if it's possibly to seed any...
I started giving Henry daily baths when his shell started looking dry, but now I think it looks even drier. Any ideas? His humidity is 40-60%, and I don't want to risk dry rot. I was considering applying coconut oil to his shell. Does that sound like a good plan of action?
I have this tree growing in my neighbor's yard, and its flowers fall over the porch where I keep Henry outside during the day. I don't know if the flowers are edible or poisonous for tortoises. I think it's a royal paulownia tree, but I'm not sure. I've attached a pic here. Any ideas? I've...
Has anyone else had a problem with gnats in their tort enclosure? I've been using organic soil as substrate, and mist it daily to try to keep it humid enough for my Russian Henry. I realize that moist organic material can breed these bugs though, so I'm not sure what to do. Is there a natural...
So I'm thinking about ordering the broadleaf testudo seed mix through tortoisesuply.com. Is that the best seed mix out there for an RT, or is there another?
Hello,
Henry hasn't been too interested in his food lately, so I'm trying to add some variety to his diet. Trouble is, I can only find limited organic produce right now. When I find more exotic food he might like, it is rarely organic. How important is it for his fresh food to be organic?
