    Super long tail hatchling!

Look at the mouse tail this ornate hatchling came out with! I've never seen a box turtle with a tail this long. Incubated at 86-88 so should be female. Even for a male that tail is crazy!

    Egg laying troubles

Emmy is one of my favorite ornate box turtles. I bred her last summer and chose not to hibernate her this winter since she had a bout of bad respiratory illness when she woke up from hibernation last year. Well since she was under nice warm summer temps in her indoor setup she was ready to lay...

    My collection :)

I adore my box turtles! My three-toeds first. Petey - I've had her over 20 years and she was an adult when I rescued her from a pet store bin so I estimate her to be at least 45 years old. She is still laying eggs every year. Bebop - Petey's son now 15 years old Spot - Bebop and Lola's...

    Colorado - box turtles

I have three-toeds and ornates in separate well planted outdoor enclosures. Always willing to give a home to a box turtle in need! I'd really like to get some Easterns for a third enclosure. In the Denver area and will provide them a great home for the rest of their lives. :)

    Sexing an ornate box turtle

Just adopted this little one from a local reptile rescue knowing s/he needs some work. A beak trim and serious nail trim will be first on the list, treating an eye infection, and getting him/her plumped up some. The plastron is flat and the tail looks more female but the eyes are definitely more...

    New outdoor enclosure

I can finally get all my turtles back outside where they belong in my new yard. :) Colorado really likes rock landscaping...it's pretty inconvenient when you need something else to go there instead. First you have clear all the rocks. Omg there were so many rocks... Laying the bricks for the...

    Box turtle hybrid?

Pirate was adopted from GCTTS two years ago. He was one of a dozen juvenile box turtles that someone was raising to release in a park when they were confiscated. Very misguided attaempt to do good. They had all been kept in one 40g tank and many had missing toes or eyes from overcrowding in poor...

Age that ornates eye color changes?

At what age do the eyes of ornates usually change? My babies are 5 years old and still have the baby yellowish grey eye color. My three-toed's eyes had started to change by this age. Surely it's going to be soon?

Breeding Sri Lankan Star to Indian Star

What are the thoughts on this? I know the Sri Lankan and Indian Stars are the same species but I assume that it is preferred to keep the locales separate? I was just curious how people feel about it since I haven't seen anything posted about it. Discuss! :)

New to the forums, but not new to tortoises! (lots of pics)

Hello all! I've been lurking for a while and would like to become more active, so thought I'd introduce my herd! I've had turtles for as long as I can remember and can't imagine not having any around. My two sulcata girls are currently 10 years old, the bigger one weighing in around 85lbs...

Box Turtle Egg - prolonged incubation

One of my females dropped a single egg without digging a hole (they're outdoors in Texas) and I've been incubating it. The male has mated with all 3 of the females so I assume it's fertile, but don't know which female it was that laid it. I've always had a box turtle colony but we don't try to...

Can you help me guess age?

Ella is a cute little redfoot that was brought into the vet (a friend of mine) on death's door after not eating for 2 months with chronic respiratory issues. They wanted to euthanize her since she needed so much intensive care. I don't have any information on husbandry but I can assume it was...
