You know Tom it must be true because the tortoises I just acquired have never had tap water and are pyramiding. However I am fortunate enough to harvest my own water :-)
I don't know hon. I collect water for my ducks and chickens and I do know that in the wild their water isn't treated. My run off collection is pure atmosphere so I dunno. When animals, especially my food animals, I don't use tap water. I would assume a chlorinated water would dry them up...
I just acquired 3 torts a week ago and their environment has changed drastically. The smaller ones are a bit sluggish but the big one is all over the place. Only today did I see one drop a load and am thinking it was the big environment change. So I hope anyway. Today all are seperated in...
I think I would be considered a bad owner too. I just watched my big guy eat the largest steaming pile of poop I have even ever seen come out of an animal. Upon further research, it appears feces of all kinds are their favorite snacks. He just dragged out a pile and circled back to dine on it...
So that is his thinking? He can't see me so I cannot see him? I kind of anticipated the smaller ones using the pot instead but they have taken residence underneath appropriate dugouts. Hmmm if he's happy then I am I suppose. It just makes me question his intelligence LOLOL.
I'm guessing this does not fit but for some reason he likes it even though I gave him all of the tools to burrow into something more fitting. I got a real genius here :tort:
http://africantortoise.com/toxic_plants_and_flowers.htm is the link where it says Vinca. I've not seen them graze on it, but have witnessed a leaf being eaten or two. They mainly like to lay on the bushes. They are now gone. They appear to be acting normal. Tooling around the yard in the...
I had no clue Vinca is poisonous to Sulcatas. I just ripped it all out. Should I take them to a vet? Not that they are open during this tropical storm. Now I am worried.
I have a large field of Prickly Pear. I read they eat cactus pads. Is this a safe variety of cactus to feed my giants? They have very tiny hair like thorns on the pads and the fruit. Do I burn them off or are they equipped to eat them? Thanks for the input.
Sorry? Noooooo don't be sorry. My family will be sorry when I run in screaming like a two year old tho haha. I hope tortoises don't embarrass easily because I will literally scream and then point :-)
Haha. Awesome. Thank you folks. Now I know what to look for which I am not looking forward too. This guy wont get all thorny on my leg and stuff will he? Oh dear. I just do not want to see that thing in real life. I hope he doesn't turn into love making tank.
I just got him today. He has never had a water bowl. He had a few soakings today and his shell absorbed it immediately. That flaky stuff you see is spray paint. All of them are spray painted and nail polished.
Perfect! Okay so I am freaked out about seeing that penis of his EVER. Will he forewarn me before he plops that thing out so I can look away?[hr]
I want to avoid seeing it like the plague. I saw that thing on youtube and pretty much had to bleach my eyes afterwards.
I cannot see the tail at all either. Even when she/he/it is tooling around. Hmmm let me go and get some more pics real quick.[hr]
and I did not notice concaving. I will be right back with some other views. :)[hr]
Here are three more views.
She is about 15 lbs. What do you think? Too early to tell yet? She is a 6 year old. I am told she is a she, but I want to be sure. I researched a tortoise penis and it is something I never want to see in real life. EVER! Bleagghhh.
Gotcha. Umm I have a question. They were all together in a little area which was a very small area for years. Now that they are in the larger area, the largest Sulcata, which I was told is a female, follows the smaller Sulcata tortoise around. I also saw "her" mounting the smaller Sulcata...
