Our little ones enjoying their hatchling play pen

The weather in sunny FL is perfect for some tortoise time. I've been having a heck of a time keeping track of 4 of them at once. They're still too small for their big tort area. Now I can relax and watch them graze and play. Happy Saturday everyone!

    Tropical Tort

I ordered one of John Crist’s (Tropical Tort) Red Foot hatchlings in March of 2014. I was so impressed with how quickly John replied to my emails and how easy he made it for arranging shipping a few weeks out when it was convenient for me. The communication from John with tracking...

    New Redfoot Torts!!!

Hi everyone. You guys were right -- once you get into the wonderful world of tortoises, it's hard to have just one. Vicki Hale just listed some newly available RF and Cherryhead babies. I bought two :) Actually they are a Valentine's gift from my husband. Please join me in welcoming "Sunny"...

    Pyramiding? Should I be panicking?

Hi everyone! "Scarlett" is 7 months old now. I purchased her last October. She is my first tortoise. Like many first time tortoise owners I had a learning curve in humidity and temps in the beginning. My humidity now averages 80% - 96% so I should be okay but can you see the beginning of little...

I'd really like to help this Tort

Hey guys. There's something about this RF that makes me want to help. The seller has this one listed as 3 years old and at $200 obo. What would a fair price be?

    Finally! Humidity Success!!!

Wow - Am I FINALLY getting this right? :) Woke up to 92% humidity in my tort table. I had to share - none of my friends are into tortoises and my TortForum family are the only ones that can relate to this feeling of victory. Now maybe my nightmares of seeing my RF with large pyramid cones on...

Update with pics on my Tort Table

I don't know what I would do without this forum! I am posting these pics of my tort table from today. I tend to learn at least one thing weekly that I need to modify so my table changes often... The cold snap we had this past week has taught me that I need additional heat sources for night...

Humidity - You all were right....I was wrong....

Hello everyone. I posted pictures of my tort table a few weeks back and several of you suggested a cover. It's not that I didn't listen but since this enormous table is part of my bedroom I really wanted to keep the open top. You were right about what a struggle it was going to be to keep the...

What do you guys think of this Red Foot?

I am looking at getting one or two more (one just isn't enough) :) The seller said this one is 2 years old. That's all the info I have so far.

    Everyone - This is "Scarlett"

My first tortoise and I'm 46 years young. It has been a crash course in proper care and specifically humidity management. She is enjoying a little time in the sun grazing on this warm Florida morning. She arrived Tuesday. She already seems to recognize me and enjoys having her head rubbed. Love her!

Question about water quality for soaking and drinking

Do you all use tap water or do you use a bottled water (spring, distilled, etc)? We have well water with filtration and I'm wondering if it would be more organic and healthy to use spring water for our tort when she arrives. What do you guys think?
