This is an update on the one decent neonate I've hatched so far this year. I haven't had any really super hatchlings so far this year and in fact, two of my big females only produced a handful of eggs.

But I did get at least one pretty good looker...
Coming out of his egg on February 1st.

The next day or so...

This is from back in April. He has some nice growth now...this photo is way overexposed so his color looks faded.

Then yesterday...

His color is getting intense!

Two days ago this egg from one of the new Arizona girls started to pip.

I kept checking it the day before yesterday and then all day yesterday. Nothin' doin'
Then this morning I peeked in and discovered him emerging side saddle.

Here he is, all sleepy eyed.
Mad red color too.

Of course, he went right back into the dark incubator to finish off his yolk sac. But in the few minutes it took to snap these photos, it was clear that he has some serious orange pigment going on in his (her?) shell!

That last one is beautiful….I know how hard it is to accurately capture their colors on camera, so I'm guessing he/she is even more beautiful then the picture shows.
