We actually do know Jaqui Castro. We have taken almost a dozen from her in the past 6 months. We Love helping Sulcatas but try to help individuals not organizations. I do want to say though that EVERY one we have taken the re-homing fee was waived. She is full now so EVERY one that calls her we go and get, so actually we have over 2 dozen that have come from either her property or through contacting her.

Actually she ONLY re-homes so being full is what she wants. How she operates is by charging a surrender fee and then an adoption fee, she is essentially a social worker NOT a tortoise rescue. When you have to find new people all the time to adopt you now have been removed from the torts and have become a social worker.

Social worker or not, I imagine she still has general husbandry duties for her torts.

Both. We have no problems with Jaqui she is a great person, just operates a more hands off type of operation. Example: Her social media is all done by a paid staff member, she has absolutely no idea what is being shown on the internet/social media about her operation. She also has no connection with the people that interact with her sites. When we ask her about something posted she has no idea....cause she doesn't have anything to do with it.
When we first started she couldn't believe we didn't charge ... now she is waiving the adoption fee. We simply do not care about the person only the tort/turtle. And the people that are the most difficult to deal with are usually the animals that need help the most. We also have to be very careful to not be the outlet for businesses to get rid of their products, it's why we try to work with individuals. Example: we could rescue 100 Sulcatas right now from other "rescues" but all their going to do is fill right back up but get paid to do so. Why would we be a place that people use to make money, when we are the ones who take care of the animals?

Hmmm. I got a little insider info on the rescue trade. Folks out my way wouldn't be accustomed to that. Then again, we don't have nearly the number of surrenders here either. Still something I'd love to do when I retire. I love caring for them.
