I have a Texas Map turtle and Southern Painted turtle. They are both hatchlings. The Map is about 1 1/2 inches and the Painted about 1 inch.They are housed in a forty gallon tank. The Texas seems to be snapping at the Painted at times. Will this be a reason to separate? They bask together, just seems like the Texas like to annoy the little guy at times in the water.

Well there might because of all the nipping but if they stop then leave them but if it continues then separate because it could lead to injuries, and you don't want that
