Today we initiated the second phase (3 doses @ two weeks apart) of our biannual deworming process, it takes several days due to the amount of tortoises we have. Each tortoise is given a specific amount based on the individual weights. We use panacur and biltrcide for the adult aldabra tortoises. We fix a special combination of the drug, mazuri, cooked sweet potato, banana, on lettuce. They always eat it all without issues!

Greg, I have always been interested in this topic. I read that healthy torts don't need to be dewormed because they can take care of their own parasites inside the body. But someone else would say that they deworm their torts periodically like once or twice per year.

What is your opinion? At what age you start to deworm them?
And if you don't mind, please share the dosage of panacur for deworming. I don't think biltrcide is available here in my country, so if it's necessary I might try it with panacur only. Thank you.

* From what i understand is that if wild in there natural terrain they do great. When they are removed from there natural terrain parasites can be an issue if untreated.

* I know of many that do not treat and many that do on a regular routine basis. At the direction of our primary vet we treat for parasites twice a year with panacur and once a year for liver flukes with biltrcide.

* The dosage is regulated by each of the tortoises individual weights. They are all different, our vet figures out the exact dosages after provide the exact weights of each.

Thank you Greg for the information. Do you deworm your juveniles too? Or at what age you start deworming for them.
