Are Hermann Torts Vocal?

I have heard that they can't because they don't have vocal cords, but I swear my tort is very expressive with his sounds. One time I caught him climbing the fence of his outdoor enclosure. He got too high and started calling for help to get down. Sounded like a dry old man other times, between the scratching his plate for food, he'll smack his tongue. He's a funny little guy. Anyone else experience this?

My Russian is only vocal when mounting something...Haven't heard him do any tongue smacking, but I know it is something redfoots do.

Well they don't call for help, that's your human brain thinking that not a tortoise.
But they do make noises.

Yes. Not actually saying help. But it was like he was running a mile and out of breath sort of sound. Heavy panting.

I would keep an eye on it, make sure he doesn't have any issues breathing

I thought that too. Noticed he only does it when he is working hard to climb up and out of his enclosure. Otherwise, he doesn't.
