What is the growth rate of these tortoises?

There are many variables that determine growth rate. No way to predict it and it varies a lot. They can easily reach 50 pounds in five years but many of them don't.

The shell looks fine and normal. I'm not seeing the dents you are asking about.

You have several problems with your current set up. The care sheet that was posted should help get you all squared away.

Here are a couple more:

The red bulb is not good. The 13 watt coil bulb is not good either. Are you getting this baby out for sun? Daily soaks?

Just wondering, how is a red bulb not good?

They make things look "funny" to the tortoises. When they are used during the day, tortoises often eat things they shouldn't like substrate. At night they often don't sleep because they can see like its not night. Tortoises have a wider range of color vision than we do. If you can see with a red light, so can they. It messes with their heads because there is nothing like that in nature. Better to use non-light emitting heat sources for night heat or regular "white" bulbs for daytime.

That is understandable. I bought another storage container for him today because I am moving my russian into the other one, and all they had was red... Should I change it? Or would the container be fine?ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1415234880.423282.jpg
