Here is the makeup of Bahia grass.
Is there anything in it that would be alarming? This is what Opo and Ms.Sully graze on everyday. Winter time the grass is dried out but still green grass is mixed in. @Tom

Thanks for the extreme large text, It made it so I didn't have to enlarge it on my own screen. You don't indicate your data source beyond 'MadBarn" and they don't say where they get the data from. That's sorta important. The following account indicates the orginal data source.

No reason to believe Mad Barn tilts the data, but if no lab or people can be accredited, it's not reliable.

Thanks for the reply.CP ? Are you referring to crude protein? The numbers for CP are better for mature unfertilized grass at 5%-10%

My yard is Bahia but I'm going to dethatch the yard. To get the underlying dead matted grass removed. It is starting to choke out the grass. I am going to seed after because dethatching will thin out the grass. Any suggestions on a seed I should use? Do you have a seed that you sell that you would recommend? I live in central Florida and winters get real dry. Rainy season starts in June.

How about St. Augustine grass? It is good for warm climates. Then there is good old Bermuda grass which also does well in warmer climates.

I good do St. Augustine that way I could buy some sod at home depot and just make plugs from the sod and space them out. I actually have the tool where you use it to take a plug of grass from one area and plant the plug in another area. The stuff grows and spreads fast. The fertilizer in the piece of sod. Wouldn't really be an issue. The tortoises wouldn't consume much of it. Plus I wouldn't have to worry about birds eating the seed. I will check out the vitamin make up of St. Augustine.

I've always just bought pasture grass seed from Tractor Supply

I have used pasture seed before. But I only get one year out of it. Usually after the dry winter I lose it. Maybe I will go to the feed and seed and ask them what they have. I can have a mixture of different grass and see which one will become the dominant grass. I am going to dethatch in sections. You wouldn't believe all the dead grass that comes up.
