Morning everyone đź‘‹

I found a ceramic plate in our garden, which was originally a roof tile..and was wondering if it could be used as something for my hermann tortoise to lay on in the basking area? Or would it need to be a peice of slate?

It will work fine. Just be sure to check temps after it has sat under the basking bulb for about an hour. You don't want it to be over the 95-100 temp. If it reaches 100 you will want to raise the bulb a bit as the height of the tortoise will get hotter. Shoot for 90-95 on the tile.

I don't think they need anything to sit on and bask. Their normal substrate will do, like regular orchid bark. I would use the slate or tile for feeding on.

I thought so too but then I actually found out it could get too hot for the little guy, so I went and bought a piece of black slate just incase!
Ah, okay! I supposed that black slate will get even hotter. Anyway, thermometer will tell you. This ceramic plate can be used for feeding too.
