I have noticed what seems to be a bit of growth at the back of Chuck's beak. Not sure if this is normal or not. It is on both sides, just more pronounced on his left than on the right.

As long as he has ability to naturally file the beak on rocks and feeding dish on regular bases you have nothing to worry about, the new growth will even out and will keep itself at check.

The upper and lower portions line up correctly at the front and that is where you would typically see an issue. It looks like some normal wear and tear there on the side to me. Has he been eating cactus pads or weeds with tough stems lately?

He eats both cactus pads and weeds regularly. He seems to like the wire weed that grows in the yard. If I let him he would eat nothing but the opuntia I have growing.

The front doesn't seem to be an issue. I would not have noticed this had he not been turning his head back to try to bite his shell. He started doing that during his soaks.
