Never heard of corn cob grain fashionpriest, I would rather stick to the ones that you know will be okay for your torts :) Try our organic soil, its a great substrate, and its so good for keeping humidity. You can also use shredded aspen, or coconut coir/playsand mix :)

Everyone has their own preferences for substrates, diets, etc. I think that the corncob is not the best choice for several reasons such as digestibility, ease of walking on it, and it not being moist. I think Eco Earth is the better choice. Sometimes shops try to sell you on what they have in stock, or sometimes it's what they truly think is a good product (sometimes we have varying opinions). I would ask why the store owner suggests this and not eco earth, and make a comparison based on scientific evidence as much as you can. I don't know anyone here who uses corn cob bedding and dozens which use coconut coir! As far as I know Indian Stars are very prone to pyramiding and a moist substrate will help prevent this. I would want to see pictures of people's adult torts before taking their care advice. Best wishes.
