I hear so many different opinions on substrates...what does everyone here use and why? I will post 'baby ' pics tomorrow...we just got our first leopard yesterday..named him/her Teiko...eating hibiscus and st. augustine grass today...seems healthy and active...just need to nail down the right substrate! Thanks! Linda

We have found cypress mulch to be nice. It is cheap (~$2.50 at Home Depot), but you have to get all the long and sharp sticks out. After that though you have a nice soft substrate which is easy to clean and keep moist if you need to.

I use aspen shavings. No smell, on the dry fluffy side, and cheaper if you buy the bags for small animals than for reptiles

For my babies I have them on paper towels, easy to clean for now and they love to hide under them and they do not try to eat it.
