Ok so I've just about got Levi's new enclosure finished and I wanted input before I'm completely done, I've still got him in his smaller house to let the seeds germinate a bit unmolested, I'm not sure I trust the water dish I got (seriously still can't find a terra cotta saucer, how is that hard?) and I'm still at my parents for the holidays. I figured it would be less traumatic for him to move to the new house after we are home and done with car rides Tuesday.
So here are work in progress pics.
First step cut a hole in the top of my Christmas tree box just big enough for a CHE and light.
Step two, extra bathroom tiles from the attic and a lone saucer I found in the barn
Step 3 humid hide (aka glad ware and a sponge) covered in coco coir
Ok sick of steps, I used water weld (says it's completely nontoxic and safe for drinking glasses) to stick the tiles together (because it's what was laying around in the garage), I liked the bit of extra height and the tiny bit of terrain change.
Add organic topsoil, I have more coco coir at home that I will mix with the unplanted part of the topsoil.
Plant leftover seeds from the garage.
Add lid, decided to test out the temps, and I do have a better way to hang the CHE at home.
The biggest thing I'm worried about is the dish, I like the size as a humidity reservoir but it is awful deep. I was thinking large pebbles in the bottom to bring it up until he's bigger? I know that would be a pain to clean but I'm ok with that. And ventilation, right now there is only the hole in the top, should I drill a few holes at nose level? I figure that low I wouldn't really loose much humidity just clear out some co2 and make sure there is o2 at his level.
What do you think? I sort of love making new enclosures so I may have gotten carried away with the pics
