I keep my tortoises substrate (coconut coir) very wet to keep humidity in his enclosure and was wondering if this is bad for his skin. His feet are darker but I am not sure if this is due to the darkness of the substrate. Here are some pictures of his feet. Totally normal. Looks great.

The substrate can be as damp as you need it to maintain humidity, but it shouldn't be constantly "wet". Usually the lower layers will retain more moisture while the top is a little drier. If you have an open topped enclosure, this will be difficult.

I agree with Tom, very wet substrate can develop fungi on the tortoise's skin. Try to keep humidity and moisture awaring no to keep a wet enviroment. :)
