Blindness

Ok so this is continued kinda from another thread but how do you tell if your tort is totally blind? Hw do you tell if you have one of those lights that can blind them. And once they're blind are they that way for life?

Do you have a coiled UVB bulb? I can't answer your question but someone will soon. If you do have one of the coiled bulbs get rid of it so it doesn't cause anymore damage. Why do you think your torts blind?

Well...One of mine has no eyes, so thats a pretty good indicator .

Damage to their eyes is basically irreparable. If they're blind, yes they are that way for life. Make sure you don't have a coiled UVB bulb...Why do you think your tort is blind?

If they have been blinded by the coiled bulb, its only temporary. It is similar to snow blindness. Once you remove the coiled bulb the eyes start to heal.

Blinded by a coil bulb would just be the inability to see due to to bright of an object....Blind is lacking slight completely.

Was feeding him the rother day an don't remember why but I reached in front of him and no reaction so I tried it a couple more times nd he didn't flinch t all.

Does your tort easily walk up to his food and eat with no problems?

Depends, sometimes he just crawls right through it like he doesn't even see it. I think I startled him earlier cause h flinched so I don't think he's totally blind.

I unplugged his bulb for some cleaning up of his area and looked to if there was a label of some sort and it says exo-terra solar glo 125w so I think I'm sad there.

If the eyes have been bombarded by the coiled bulb for a long time, it may cause permanent blindness. My sister had some little sulcata babies under a coiled bulb when the bulbs first came out. No one knew at that time about the blindness. She ended up with one that was permanently blind and two (I may be wrong on the numbers) that recovered. She used the bulb for a very long time before we were able to figure out what was wrong.

The eyes swell shut, weep and are painful. After the bulb is removed, the eyes slowly (over days) recover.
