Beautiful tortoise to bad he's pyramiding. Every place, Specially in AZ a tortoise needs to be housed inside a closed chamber with high humidity 80% for first few years, 3 for most leopards.
Humidity I know is not easy in AZ but to stop the pyramidimg, which is hard to stop with leopards, he's going to get bad like the one my avatar.

I love the showers.

Your pic shows one of those ramped water bowls. Those are hazardous to tortoises. Many flip over on/in them, and some even drown. I would remove that ASAP. The terra cotta saucer in the picture is a much better way to go.

Thank you! And oh no, that’s too bad. Bowsers been in my care for about a month and seems to be otherwise healthy and content. He turns two on Halloween.

The original owner said in his 20 year experience the feeding frequency affected pyramiding more than humidity. They were raised in 80%+ humidity for the first year and then moved outside. Fed every three days, no calcium, zucchini, collard greens, grape leaves and grass clippings.

After reading up I definitely want to get him more moist and humid. In his outdoor enclosure there are hides and a pipe burrow (avg temp 85-90 degrees) with coco coir that I spray down with the hose morning, noon and night. It’s monsoon so hopefully that will help too. If I keep him outside in the day and inside an enclosure with 80%+ humidity at night will that help? I’m a bit confused on how to best house him. He seems to love it outside so the idea of putting him in a smaller enclosure 24/7 makes me sad.

PS- Please see my added pics. I did a zoom and crop for the original pics posted (bc he had a huge poop lol) so it’s possibly a bit distorted. I’ll do a proper photo shoot during his next soak :)

Yes he still has a lot of pyramiding. With misters or sprinklers to raise the humidity on a daily basis and get some humidity up into his hide of night box, you might be able to stop it. With the AZ heat you have it's going to be a constant fight.

Okay, I’ll do my best to get his nightbox better insulated and I’ll add a stand up mister by his wet hides. Thank you for the help!
