Had someone bring this one in...had a run in with a critter in the wild...anyone want to id it for me. Found along the Gulf Coast south of Beaumont TX, muddy habitat, no real distinguishing marks, four toes on the rears, hinged plastron...just such a strange shape...has me scratching my noggin.

Looks like a mud turtle to me, not a box turtle. Can we see the top of him?

Here is another...do mud turtles have hinged plastrons?

Yes, they do, and yes, it is a mud turtle (water turtle).
