I am looking to buy a tortoise and have done quite a lot of research into it although i cant find a tortoise that matches my requirements.

It needs to hibernate

It needs to be able to live in a tortoise table

It has to be quite big ( as a male, i heard females grow bigger )

Thank You for your time

Tobes

Hi Tobes, and welcome to the Forum!

In my opinion, turtles and tortoises belong outside. I don't think any tortoise should be kept in a tortoise table all the time. Their primary habitat should be outside, with the secondary habitat indoors during inclement weather. Tortoises are not domesticated and they do much better when set up outside.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Thankyou very much, but we have a small garden with lots of birds around would it be okay if it was attended regularly outside and then slept in at night

Sleeping inside is fine. Attempting to watch a tortoise while it's outdoors will be an exercise in frustration for you both. You'll get bored, the tort won't get nearly enough outdoor time, and they are escape artists. A secure perimeter will make all the difference.

If you will have an indoor habitat, what is your reason for needing it to hibernate?

Knowing where you live - your climate- helps us give advice.

No tortoise the size you want can live in a commercially available tortoise table.

We can help you better if we understand why you have these particular requirements.

The tortoise will do fine out in the garden during the day, then brought inside and kept in a box of shredded paper overnight. Just make sure the garden is safe and he can't escape.
