I searched and cant seem to find anything for what i wanna ask, was wondering if its ok to buy an enclosure without pulling up my grass i see most peoples enclosures are all dirt.
mine are still little so while in the tank i use the coconut bedding but would like them to experience the outside during the day and i notice most enclosures have no grass so was wondering if theres a reason why.
I think most people have dirt because torts like to dig in it. If you already have grass down I would keep it but add some dirt too for digging. Maybe do half and half?
grass is fine, but they do need dirt/coco coir to dig in, actually my enclosure is dirt-mulch-coco coir with grass, weeds, plants... growing and filling in the bare dirt, have several hides with nothing growing inside for tort to burrow
Is this an outdoor enclosure you are talking about?
Building an outdoor pen on all grass is ok. You can put a few flat stones down to feed off of. Add some rocks of different sizes for the tort to walk over and around. Maybe dig up one corner for a dirt patch under a hide.
Eventually the edges of the walls will be all dirt from pacing/walking the perimeter.
ok yes its all grass but i dont mind making a dirt patch for them when their outside my husbands tortoise is becoming an escape artist i need to fix that issue lol
