Your little baby might have an easier job burying himself if you use a softer substrate. The cypress mulch is ok, and I use it too, however, for babies I use small grade orchid bark. You can also use coco coir.

Thanks Yvonne. On your advice, I've ordered some of the orchid bark and we mix some coco coir in too -- it's just not all that visible. Thus far, this has been the best substrate for holding in my humidity.
