Cactus fruit

I found some cactus fruit at a local grocery store. Two questions, how long is it good in the fridge, and should this be considered like other fruit- as in give sparingly? I haven't given any yet, but I'm pretty excited about it!

It will last about a week or longer in the frig. My understanding is to give it sparingly.
