Is this type of cactus safe for my Russian? If so, how much should I feed and how often?

Thanks.

Yes. That is opuntia. You may have a bit of trouble with the glochids (spines), but you can scrub them off with a plastic pot scrubber, like a Scotch Brite, or burn them off.

Thanks Yvonne. I am thinking that this would be just a rare treat? Monthly, or can it be more often?

You can feed it more often then monthly, once a week sounds good. It is high in calcium, moisture, fiber, a good food all around, plus tortoises love it.

It's a great frequent food, even though tortoises treat it as a treat :D You can try cutting them off too, but that can get a little difficult :)

I am very excited to add this to Hatch's diet. I have a ton of it so I doubt he will put much of a dent in the supply. Thanks for all of your help.
