There are a few ways to get calcium into a tortoises diet, you can put in a cuttle fish bone in the enclosure and let the tortoise regulate its own calcium intake, or you can get a good calcium supplement from a pet store.Tortoises obtain their calcium requirement in several ways. The bulk of their requirement is typically supplied by consuming calcium-rich vegetation.

I also buy the "Now" brand. There is a supplier here in Michigan, maybe 20 minutes away from me. I ended up getting two, 12 oz bottles of the calcium carbonate powdered form.

And I honestly have only gone through maybe 1/8th of the bottle with giving Thor calcium at every feeding (a good amount too) and then my basilisk twice a week. And I got it last year in July.

I think I payed $5 a bottle. So I am pretty happy with this brand.

As far as the vets go. Most of the "highly recommended" vets have been vets for years. And as most of us know, things are changing in reptile care. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the experienced vets were schooled that certain things are OK and never researched any new techniques in the more recent years.

I would personally just go with the calcium carbonate, you know what's in it, and there are no extras. And it's cheap.
