I was wondering what people use for calcium supplementation? Are there any brands or types that people recommend?

I use cuttlebone from my local feed store, 25 cent a piece.

Cuttle bone is good to leave out so they can munch at will. I also use RepCal or ZooMed stuff from time to time. I like the MinerAll from Sticky Tongue Farms too for a more complete mineral supplement instead of just calcium. I only use it about twice a week for growing babies and females during egg production times. I don't usually supplement adult males. It should be noted that my tortoise get a varied high fiber high calcium diet already. I might use more if I was feeding grocery store foods regularly.

Thank you, my Tortoise has not touched his cuttlebone in the year and a half that I have had him. I thought I was feeding a good diet but apparently I wasn't. He, she actually according to what I found out from another post, I just can't seem to get used to that yet. only gets grocery store food in the middle of winter. Is scraping a cuttlebone sufficient until I can get some rep Cal or mineral? Right now my Tortoise is outside in his enclosure for the summer eating plants from the Russian tortoise seed mix.

Yes scraping is fine, use lightly to much and the smell will put them off, in this case less is more (better).

What does your tortoise eat the rest of the year? It is unlikely that a tortoise who spends that much time outdoors and eats a decent diet is going to get MBD.

I grow the Russian seed mix indoors, he also eats and dive escarole turn up greens mustard greens cactus, spring mix, kale, Romain lettuce, red lettuce, dandelions, sedums, rose petals and roses sometimes, Acer Maple, wild geranium, herbal hey, sometimes the TNT powder. An occasional carrot or celery, and he is strawberry once. His checks for parasites came back normal the last time, he has been treated for parasites a couple times though. That's why I am so devastated to hear that he has in BD I thought I was doing everything right. I change power Sunbold at 12 months because he had spent many of those months outside. I guess the only thing I didn't do was supplement calcium. He wouldn't touch his cuttlebone. I feel very stupid and I'm very angry at myself that I feel so bad I could just cry.

Okay, I bought a cactus pad and cut it down the middle. Then ice cream cuttlebone onto the two halves, kind of like two pieces of toast. She ate it without any problems. If I do this three times a week would that be sufficient? And the rest of the time just let her eat her plants in her outdoor enclosure?
