It certainly looks like an aster but it's not a plant I see out here in the west.

My first thought was chickory, but I'm not quite sure.

I thought of that, too but don't think so. The petals of chicory are straight/flat at their tips, and the flower head itself is quite flat. The center of the flowers are different colors as well.

But who knows?! A better picture would help. :) One where we can see the entire plant.

Beautiful pic:) I see those types all over the place too. I try to stop and snap pics when I can lol.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I love flower pics.
