The ingredient list doesn't say what species of tree the bark comes from. Personally, I wouldn't 'test' it on my animal.

Red flag: "pH balanced." What did they add to balance the pH.
Red flag # 2: "Neutral pH of 6-6.5" That is not neutral. That is acidic. 7.0 is neutral. Are they really that ignorant, or just intentionally misleading. This is basic grade school science.
Red flag #3: It doesn't say what it is made of.

I have never used spruce and don't know of anyone who has, so I can't offer and help on whether it is safe or not.
