I just got my second tortoise...my first Russian:tort:. Can someone plz help me sex him/her?

In a month or 2 I would like to get a female for him...best way to tell the difference between the 2?

Males have long tails with a slit in them, females have short tails with a star at the end.

and one male and one female probably wont work well together.. you will need a large enclosure, and more like 1male 2-3 females.

Yes males and females usually don't get along in indoor enclosures. You can keep them separate like I do.

Looks male to me and I would get at least two females for him and separate them every two weeks or put them in a big enclosure with a lot of vision barriers (ex. plants, hides).

Hard to tell from the picture but he might also need a nail trim.

As I am new to tortoises...whats the best way to trim nails?

They can be cut like dog or cat nails, just avoid the quick. Cutting them can be an ordeal though, they are stubborn.
