hey y’all! I just bought a 100 watt Che bulb, did yours have a funny smell when you first turned it on?

It can be normal for any heating element to smell funny at first due to dust or something left over from the manufacturing process on it's surface. Like first time an electric furnace is used for the year.

That’s what I thought I looked it up and got similar answers. Is it okay if I’m using a 100 watt che in a deep dome 5.5 mini fixture? I read it’s not supposed to be used for that, but have also read it would be fine?

I wouldn't use a 5.5 dome unless I needed it for a smaller enclosure, where a larger dome wouldn't work. I typically only use 10-12" brooder lights. They're usually rated for 250w minimum so i don't have to think about the wattage when changing bulbs, etc. The larger dome also reflects the heat over a larger area.

I agree with what jaizei said. CHEs run very hot. A larger dome will allow for more heat dissipation and ventilation.
