WTH? I added a bunch of grass to her enclosure to give her something new and this morning at 6:30 am she ate her weeds and leaves. Went back to check on her 10 minutes later and found her on top her hide. Does it look like a flipping hazard?

Well I moved her, husband working nights, he checked her st 2 pm and she was back on top... he left her, I got home at 5 and she was in her water dish.., guess she has skills, but the drop is shorter than her shell so I think maybe it’s safe.

I never thought a tortoise would have a personality, but she is sassy and bold and eats from my hand, no fear... it’s so much fun to watch her personality, when I got her end of March this year, when I opened shipping container she was standing tall with attitude lol

Is that bad? She’s always backed up when close to my fingers.

Our tortoises have eaten from our hand over many years; they have yet to mistake our fingers for food. Perhaps living out in the sunshine improves their vision. Whenever they hear our voices, they come charging from their burrow.

I'm afraid to go near my tortoise barefoot because he aims for my toes. Sometimes I hand feed him but if the food is too short, he could take a chomp that would include part of my hand. The other day I was trying to give him a cucumber slice and I had to pull back quickly.

Exactly this.

I don't believe to be a territorial issue. Nothing happens to my fingers when I'm handling them. I have permanent indoor and outdoor enclosures. Different types of species and yet same results. My guess is they're just used to seeing them together with food.

While not intentional, some tortoise have been known to over extend their beak's out in hopes of eating a piece of food in a single mouthful. I've personally never seen a tortoise take sensible mouthfuls of food.
