Im a new coconut oil in use!! I bought this organic virgin coconut oil cold pressed! I soaked my babies yesterday and they ate and then in afternoon i applied coconut oil and they went for sleep! This morning i took a smooth towel and i made a message in their shell first and then I took a toothbrush with water and i did a message and a towel again to dry them! I put them in the sun today back to their enclosures but i see their shells shines a lot! Did i put a lot because im afraid that oil blocks the sun!

The oil does not block the sun, and your scrubbing this morning likely removed a lot of the product. Just wipe off the excess with a towel directly after application, and then let it sit and absorb.

I saw this post on FB, and a lot of people said that coconut oil is not good for the tortoise. It blocks pores 🤷‍♀️
@Tom, can you please explain what exactly coconut oil does for the tortoise shell?

FB is fake news. Its is almost always wrong and/or backwards. There are no "pores" and slathering them with vaseline or cold pressed coco oil does absolutely no harm whatsoever. I have a mentor with hundreds of tortoise that has been doing this since the 80s, and it's nothing but good. He has 100+ year old tortoises that get covered with the stuff regularly to keep away the Florida mosquitoes and fungus. He's literally been using this for 40 years on all ages and sizes. Absolutely no ill effect. I myself have been using the coconut oil on around 50 tortoises for five years now, and I can also report zero problems. We've had this discussion here many times over the years, and its one of the few arguments I didn't even bother to take part in because its so silly.

In addition to keeping mosquitos and fungus at bay, the moisturizing effect keeps the new growing tissue in between the scutes healthy and hydrated, which helps to prevent pyramiding. It also makes them looks nice, but I wouldn't use it for that reason alone, personally.

Unless you just need a good laugh, or a good cry, stay off of FB. Bad info there almost universally.
