The kid across the street came over with homemade choc chip bread his girlfriend made. There are 4 kids in their 20's. A brother and sister escaping a drug addicted mom and their boy and girlfriends. They are very nice to us and Kerry is like their mom. The girlfriend even sent over a treat for me to burn on the porch! THAT is a good neighbor! LOL

Anyway, they wanted to be sure we were ready for the upcoming snowstorm and I think he was relieved when we told him to bring everyone over if the power goes out. I have a generator that I test ran today and mounted the electrical box inside its housing and ran the cable into the garage so if I do need it, I can wire it in 10 minutes. We also have a gas fireplace....and a 500gal tank! I think we're good.

I think that she must have been around before my time here. I don't remember her.
What a coincidence, Over the weekend I did my 6 mo. Exercise of my Honda 4k GenSet. I have the solar & Batteries, But if I get multiple cloudy days, I will have no Back-up should the power goes out. I need to get an electrical engineer to talk to me about how I reconnect my GenSet to the system, It has a manual transfer Sw @ the Main. and an ATS for the batteries.
And it is nice to have neighbors like that! I live on a dead end, and know most my close neighbors, and we all offer help, when needed.

Don't feel too badly about needing that engineeer to figure out the wiring. I also have a manual transfer switch to wire into the main panel. You know how much i love shoving my hands in there! LOL
It makes it so much extra fun when you aren't REALLY sure that you know what you are doing!
I had this MTS installed at my other house.....its just taken this long for me to get to it.

I caution all of our friends as we get older....dont give in to that "everything scares me" stuff. They promised me in 1970 that by today we would be glacier-less. Enough said. "They"....are not to be believed is what they taught me. LMAO

Another thing the kid across the street asked...he asked how much our electric bill was. They used over 6000kwh's in 1 month! Wow! We used 1829kwh for a baseline. I asked what the stat was set to...he said 65 F.

It doesn't make sense and it woke me wondering how they are living in 65f yet burning 6000 kw's a month. He asked me to come over and look because he hears something humming under the floor. I wonder if the owner placed a kick heater in the crawl space?

A mystery....i love mysteries!

I have decided to cut down on the feeders this year. We have a programme on TV this week called Winter Watch, and they were saying how feeders can be responsible for killing birds by passing on viruses and bacteria. Millions of finch species have died because of things like avian flu and some other bacteria. The RSPB has stopped selling bird tables because they are the worst culprits and they have also been investigating the decline in some species to try to find out what is going on.
I clean my feeders regularly, sweep up any dropped seeds and scrub the ground every evening but it's still risky. So I'm going to find plants that birds would feed on in the wild and use those in the garden. I won't just stop suddenly because my sparrows wait every morning for me to put the feeders but I will gradually phase them out and meanwhile increase the cleaning. I'm going to need a bigger garden!
I saw that too, it was a UK based program so I wondered if it is a problem here in Finland too.

I love mysteries, too . . .throw me a curve ball.
I have a Microwave that crapped out, that I'm determined to figure out, I LOVE troubleshooting, I was good at it when I worked at the treatment plant.
And I'm comfortable working with electricity, VERY CAUTIOUS,, but very comfortable. I can't count all the electrical safety and Arc flash classes I have had...

Good evening everyone!

Just letting you know that my friend's Xmas present which I thought had been taken by the noisy neighbour has turned up. The postman accidentally took it back to the sorting office instead of leaving it at the post office.

I ordered a cactus pad for Lola almost 2'weeks ago from a reptile supplies shop I've not used before. I was given s delivery date of 19 - 21 Jan, and was expecting an email to say it was on it way, but heard nothing. I waited in on the possible days and contacted the sellers. They said it was dispatched but looks like Royal Mail have lost it. They don't have any more in stock so are refunding the cost.
The post these days is dreadful and RM is actually owned by someone from Eastern Europe now, yet another British institution sold off.

Heard about your impending snow storm on our news. I hope it's not as bad as it could be. Stay safe and warm.

If the manual transfer switch already installed and you just need a way to connect the generator?

Yes, USPS loses things that I have purchased, It's interesting to see a package bounce all over the place, taking it's sweet time to get here a week late. There are efforts to sell off the USPS, and I can imagine the service to degrade from there.

Please be very careful with that transformer, yes the one under the shield. It produces somewhere around 20k volts. I have read that it's similar to an old tv's flyback transformer.
You ARE playing Operation....IRL! LOL

I have heard that when microwaves"grind" when they turn on, they are 0ast repairing. Maybe you will "lear" me something new!
(Sry Minn, you did it to yourselves)

It's wet ,windy dark, cold and dismal here again. 😔 But that's UK winters for you.

I wonder if we'll eventually have snow?.We often do after the West Coast of US has some - please keep it to yourself if you can! 😀

I'm having a lazy day today, I've not been sleeping well lately and it's caught up with me. So just going to go with the flow today. Lola has only just surfaced so he's not too energetic either -; we're a pair well met.
I do have a few small things that need going though so I'd better get on with them.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend so far. TTFN

Good afternoon morning everyone!

This house is being decorated now that the neighbours have gone. The back has been painted and the staircase, porch and landing are going to look palatial!
