It is usually even colder this time of the year!Eeeek and I thought 12° f was bad!!!
We haven't seen what it can get down to here for years. It used to get down in the negative °f and roads became ice skating rinks. One morning in the 80's we woke up to everything bearing a coat of ice. It's was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Even though it was scary. With the sun shining on it, it looked like the whole world was covered with diamonds. Just beautiful. It is usually even colder this time of the year!
Have you had any snow Natrah?
Dear Lyn,Have you had any snow Natrah?
Wales has had a yellow warning for snow and ice but thankfully it hasn't arrived. It's very cold and frosty in the mornings though. I've had to break the ice on the bird baths a few times and this week.
Well the fruit trees will like it. Part of the problem here on the west coast, is were NOT getting enough Chill days for the fruit trees. They, depending on the type of tree may need between 700 to 1000 hrs of temps from 32f (0c) to 45f (7c) to set the tree for fruiting the next year... with the warming climate, were not looking good in that respect,,,,I'm glad we're getting some icy weather this year. It's been several days below freezing and that's so good for us and our environment. The weathermen are saying it's below normal and what have you with crazy storms. Crazy weather out of control. Doomsday! The weather is still not as bad as I've seen it. I'm glad about that but I'm also glad that we are actually getting a semblance of winter. We're supposed to.
I'm so pleased you found him and have him safely home. With unpredictable weather and temps it's always a worry if they're out. I bet he's glad to be home too.And , , , look who happens to just show up after sneaking out just before Christmas....way in my back garden, that dang Seymour. I took his tracker off to replace the battery, and he snuck out before I was able to put it back on him.
He has now got washed off and is warming up slowly. Will put him on his pad shortly....and he will be WATCHED with eagle eyes, till I get that tracker reattached...jerk!
Yes we've had a dusting and it's pretty frozen - not deep but very slippery underfoot - as I discovered when I went out to put the bird feeders up. Thankfully I didn't fall.
Love it . . I just love it.Hello Everyone!
I decided to go on a Xmas vacation and Marsha took my tracker off to allow me to do so. I had many exciting adventures and I will tell you about these when I have warmed up.
Happy New Year
Seymour
Yes, I'm happy he's back inside, I would not say I was "worried", more like concerned, as to his whereabouts. It DID surprise me how far back in my yard he got, considering the cold weather.I'm so pleased you found him and have him safely home. He's a leopard! Same as my Lola.
Lola doesn't wander far when it's cold. He likes to go to the door and survey his kingdom from there but he turns around and heads in after a quick look. Yesterday I didn't see him until about 5.30 pm and he hasn't ventured out today yet. I don't blame him he has a lovely heated hide so why would he want to leave it when we're having such a cold snap?Yes, I'm happy he's back inside, I would not say I was "worried", more like concerned, as to his whereabouts. When he is on the patio, and it is that cold out, he finds his favorite corner, pulls everything in and dozes until I come and bring him inside (typically late afternoon/early evening). I have been scanning the yard when I have been working or walking through to care for the ducks and chickens, even checking his favorite hiding spots. But he must have been comfortable/warm enough that he was traveling yesterday, as I had been to that area of the yard frequently since he snuck out.

I've had Lola for 12 years inext July, and I think he was about 3 - 5 years old then. He was found in a field by someone I worked with and all attempts to find his owner failed. My sister was supposed to give him a home so I was just going to be halfway house until I could pass him on, but unfortunately she couldn't take him at the last minute because her hubby became ill, so he ended up staying with me even though I'd never had any interest in tortoises.Hi Lyn, Ah, yes! another handsome dude.
