Would be great to see a follow up or link to another resource of the suggested / recommended alternatives to what you outlined here, you have everything not to have and why but would also be great to see what the better replacement would be for each thing and why

For example I'm brand new and got a halogen bulb cause I thought it was the 'standard reptile bulb' but apparently since it can cause pyramiding its a no go, so what would your alternative be to a halogen bulb?

Cheers
Hello friend! Sorry for the delay! As mentioned above there are lots of care links on here for the correct items& such for your specific species, I’m currently catching up with the forums activity after a break away, I’ll be sure to check out if you have any other posts and help answer any questions you need🐢💚

That was really well put together, especially for folks with short attention spans and don't like to read (let alone comprehend) a wall of text.

I'd love to share this if that ok with you. I know a ton of folks who can use some of this info. I expect I'll get a LOT of blowback for some of it, especially the keeping in pairs, free roaming the house, and the whole dog thing. But after 30 years of wedded bliss, I can handle an argument. lol
Hi there! I’m new here. So glad I read this before my new tort get here! I got eh Acradia 100 Watt Golden Sun Halogen basking bulb. I was under the impression this was the best if the best for a Russian Tort. :( What bulb should I get?
Hello everyone! I’d been a long time lurker on this site long before joining just under a year ago now, over that time I’ve seen these husbandry issues come up time and time again, sometimes with dire consequences☹️

I thought this thread might serve as a good visual guide for these common things to avoid, with a brief reasoning why, I encourage anyone to do more in depth research on this forum into any of the points raised if your interested in doing so🙂

I was under the impression this was the best of the best for a Russian Tort. :( What bulb should I get? Also the terra-cotta saucers- is there no worry in getting one from Home Depot? With it being around plants and all, a good wash with Dawn soap will be enough?

Hi!
Arcadia GoldenSun Floodlight or Arcadia Solar Basking Floodlight, Flukers Basking Light (so - regular, non-halogen, flood incandescent bulbs in frosted glass sleeves). Wattage depends on enclosure dimensions and temperatures, but 100W is a good start for 6x3x2.5' enclosure. For open-top you may need a higher wattage.

Yes, you can get your terracotta saucers from Home Depot, no problem. After using Dawn soap, rinse, let it stay in clean water for for a few minutes and place them under direct sun for a day or two. Get 2-3 saucers at once to have a spare at hand.

If you have more questions - let's continue in your original thread :)
