We have always composted our kitchen produce scraps and paper. I was wondering if it would be okay to use this as a substrate.

I wouldn't do it, but I really can't give you a good reason why.

Hmmm... I never thought of bacteria... compost doesn't stink and I always thought stink = bacteria.

But you're right, I don't want to risk anything. We are going to put together a nice out door rig for Dorrie and it's going to in a plastic child's pool that is set inside of the dog run we never used. The dog run is chainlink and for now with the pool I think it would be good for her to stay in that until she gets a little bit bigger and until we can build up the inside of the dog run properly. We have three big dogs and I the dog run will keep her out of reach. We also plan on putting wire fencing material over the top of the dog run so that no big birds come get her for lunch.

So what do you think would be good for substrate in a child's pool? I have clean dirt inside of the dog run, will that be okay?
