I am freaking out a little P) is the worn/frayed carpet due to him eating in that spot alot? If so, I would be concerned of where the carpet loops went to?
I had to take a double look at the substrate and noticed the rug, the missing threads, and your cute baby's mouth! This is not good for him. It could clog up his intestines. Maybe you can put in something like coco coir, or cypress mulch. Just some friendly advice
I am in reptile and amphibian medicine and I appreciate all the advice. I just had him on the floor while I was getting ready to soak and feed him.
He is roughly about 2-3 years old I am guessing. He/she came into my clinic from a dog attack and bite wounds. I rehabilitated him and game and fish said I had to keep him as the road to recovery was long and would have been against the law to relocate him in the wild after being captive for so long. That was about 2 years ago, and he was, best guessing, about a year old or so when I rescued him (I am going by lots of pics of wild and captive dt size for that assumption)
Only real issue I have is I cannot get him to eat grass and very many weeds at all, he basically only eats the spring mix (be it he eats a lot of it, he loves). He was emaciated and sick beyond the trauma, so I am wondering (as the vets were as well) if he was a runt or something and didnt thrive very well in the wild. But, he is healthy now. Eats (greens at least) great, goes to the bathroom great, very active, and his first brumation last winter was perfect, and getting ready to brumate again soon (it was about mid October or so last year)
I don't think that he is all that small for his age..not at all...he is very lovely for sure and you did an awesome thing in helping him out....while spring mix is good as he grows he will get other stuff I am sure...since he had the rocky start I would continue to encourage him eating and getting strong before you force on new items...you can perhaps get some of the vitamin sprinkle stuff or offer in some mazuri to offset any deficiency in vitamins??? just a thought
