The moist substrate sticks all over my baby's face and legs. Can this irritate him or harm him in any way? It's a coconut fiber substrate. He seems a little bit bothered by having it on his face

If you pat it down and line the water dish with stones on the outside of it, it will help to keep the coir where it belongs.
