Damaged shell!!

Hello I'm new to this. I have a 9year old hermann named Rodney. Today we have noticed he has some how damaged his shell, could anyone please advise do I need to do anything? Put anything on it? He has regular baths & I have cleaned it with just water. Thanks in advance x

Some triple antibiotic ointment will help.

What did the damage? Its important to discover and correct that issue. Looks like it could be rodents, and it could get a lot worse. Does this tortoise live inside or outside?

He lives inside but goes outside when we are outside too. Not sure how this happened but he did manage to get himself in the shed yesterday so possibly from then
