i found this mangrove tank setup from a reef forum
i think i can build a DBT tank similar to it

You totally could. That is a good looking tank. I kept ornate DBTs for a while and had a set up very similar. It was a bit larger, and had deeper water, and since I didn't have super lighting, I created prop roots out of PVC and glued them together then painted them instead of having a mid-sized mangrove (I had about a dozen seedlings planted throughout the fake roots, but they were around 18 inches tall). Filled it up with some live mummichogs (minnows) and voila!

I'll have to see if I can dig up some pics. This was back before I had a digital camera.

I'd love to see some pics of yours once you get it up and running.
