Hi everyone, so i am at the vet with my desert tortoise and the vet recommended deworming him. Is that normal? Anyone done it?
Did the Vet take a fecal sample and find any worms/parasites? I would not treat my tortoises for anything they don't have, but that's just me.
She didn't say he gave worms but recommended it. I declined it. She didn't do any test. She was recommending panacur. 2 doseWorms are actually very common.
Most times no treatment is needed. But any good vet would know if the parasite load is causing an issue. And how much of what to use to kill them.
This is best done by a vet.
And yes. Its 100% normal.
However it seems that a lot of vets want to treat every time they see a worm. And it might not be money well spent. Or worth it to the host animal. (It is poison after all.) So ask if it's needed.
Yeah that's what i was thinking also that's why i pulled out my phone and posted on here while she was talking. LolNo
Treatment without even diagnosing is ridiculous.
If I were you, I'd quietly look for another vet.
Seriously.
Sorry that I misunderstood your initial question.
Not normal. And it should never be done. Why poison an animal because it might or might not have worms?
It's rediculous.
