I have read Toms thread a thousand times. Yet, if I have the TRex food and the ZooMed dry grassland tortoise, are they not eating anything but the spring mix lettuce because those foods taste bad or what? I know I need to get the Mazuri brand. For the time being, I would like to use this food up if it is good for these torts. I just see them scarf down lettuce and nothing. I did spray the vitamin spray on the lettuce and they are still eating. They are also slowly chomping on the turtle bone. Thanks for your replys in advance.

I only feed mine dandelion greens, romaine and chopped collard greens 3times a week rotating them. I add in some treats once a week like bell pepper cores or squash, strawberries rarely. Cactus fruit when its in season.

Besides that they actively feed on various grasses and plants/weeds in the yard. I would buy some timothy hay and just leave it out till they start eating it. Like all animals they can be spoiled. Some also like alfalfa, but its high in protein and some think it can cause shell issues.

As for packaged foods? I am not sure if they are good or bad, my Vet says they are not necessary if you give a diverse diet.

They don't NEED any type of pellet, if they eat a good variety of more "natural" foods. Grazing on grass and weeds in a yard is really the best thing for them.

If you really want them to eat some prepared diet, just soak it until its mushy and then mix in small amounts, very thoroughly, with finely chopped greens. Keep feeding it this way for a few weeks and they will have no choice, but to eat it. They may get hungry for a few days, but that is not necessarily bad either.

Dried grass hay is more for older ones. There is no harm in offering it to littler ones, but they usually won't eat it much.

Ok. It is hard to find weeds and grass in Indiana now. Snow and single digit weather is here so. You said something about growing certain grasses or weeds. Any ideas on a grass that will grow fast and in a pot?

Rye grass will grow in a pot, you can get greens from the store. Do you have a tack shop or feedstore local? Go and ask for hay flakes or try a bag of timothy hay, I would leave that out for them 24/7, put some greens next to it. They will eat it eventually though.
