Well, there's some genetic variation in the species I'm sure... For instance my Russian is mostly green but I've seen a fair share of yellow or even brown ones..

Additionally, regarding the light center of the older ones' scutes: The light area on your little guy's will probably become that... As they grow, the new parts of the shell may be darker than, and surround the original pattern. If you google pictures of other tortoise species (the Redfoot baby vs. adult is very obvious, as new shell growth is black), you'll see this. Additionally, the 2 that aren't yours have a bit of pyramiding going on, so that contributes to the difference.

Your little guy is absolutely adorable by the way. Love the shell.

When young sulcatas grow, the new growth comes in dark. You can already see it in your baby. Your baby will be dark too when it reaches the size of the ones in the pic, but hopefully, since you are here, it won't be pyramided like that.
