Someone just gave me an ornate box turtle to "nurse back to health" and I was told it had a broken leg. Well the dislocation/break is at the shoulder. The leg is is warm and the toes move but the turtle can't pick it up to walk. He's healthy besides this and eating. Anyone have any ideas until I can get him to the vet?

Popsicle sticks. Or tape the leg so he can't move it, or the shoulder. But he needs to see a Vet. If you have some Metacam, give him a little for the pain......but I'd fix him so the shoulder doesn't move.

I had a Manouria tortoise with a rear leg dislocated out of the joint. Evidently the leg can't be put back into the socket. This tortoise had surgery to cut off the ball. He has since recovered completely and doesn't even limp. He's able to breed the females and shows no ill effects.

if you cannot afford to get to a vet right away, try taking the turtle to a wildlife rehabber.
