Do turtles smell?

I was talking to an aquarium maintenance tech who told me that no matter how frequently the tank is cleaned water turtles will have a smell. I was planning on putting them in my office at work, so any smell would not be an option. Is he correct? I've not heard anyone on the forum mention smell as a problem.

I kept 3 turtles in a 250gallon tank, only filled up halfway. I used the FluvalFX5 filter and did a partial water change 1x a week.... Never smelled..??

A properly maintained turtle tank will not smell. Same as a properly maintained aquarium. If it smells your filtration is not working right

I've had two musk turtles for 4 years and no smell I haven't got the best filter and If im honest I should prob clean the tank out more regularly but defo no smell

After I've handled the turtles that come to my rescue, my hands smell fishy.

I'd say that there can be a slight aquarium/fish kinda smell to it but if there is it's VERY slight. And only if you haven't kept up with maintaining your filter/water changes.

the turtle usually does not smell the water does the water stays on the turtle so then the turtle smells. The water smells because of the rotting food. feeding in a separate container that you can empty out should vastly reduc any smell.
