Well I decided not to do a third round of Baytril just yet because he seemed to be doing better. He quit breathing out of his mouth, but the eyes were still so puffy. I started him on a vitamin soak about a week ago. I use the baby vitamins (poly-vi-sol) and baby food. After the soak I use his terramycin ointment for his eyes.

There was one soak last week where he opened his eyes finally, but hasn't done it since... Well for two days in a row, Domino has opened his eyes during the soak. I'm hoping this is major progress. His eyes are still very puffy, but hey it's an improvement.

The usual protocol for the Baytril administration is usually administer once a day for five days, or once every other day for 10 days. If you've gone through that protocol, then you wouldn't use Baytril again for a month or so. If after a month you're still seeing symptoms, then you can start the protocol again for either the 5 or 10 days, depending upon what your vet told you to do.

Just keep up with the vitamin or baby food soaks. You'll start to see an improvement soon. But, if you didn't finish administering all the Baytril, you really should go through the whole protocol.

The problem with antibiotics is that if any bacteria survive the meds, they become resistant and harder to treat the next time. There is no real harm in using the meds when the animal appears to be OK, but the risk of resistant pathogens is real and significant.

I hope he continues to do well!

I finished the full round of baytril completely. I saw little to no change. The vet recommended it a second time. He doesn't seem to have the respiratory infection symptoms anymore. When I said I didn't feel necessary to go a third dose, I meant a third round of shots.

He still have puffy eyes, lethargy, and lack of appetite.

I do not plan on putting him on any more medications unless it is needed. I know about resistance in bacteria.
