Neither. Most eggs explode because the inside of the egg has rotted and the gasses get to be to much to hold inside.

If you use too much humidity the shell may 'check' but it won't explode.

(to 'check' means it has little cracks all over the shell, but it doesn't break or pop)

Eggs too wet from the incubation media being too wet is what will usually cause an egg to pop early in incubation. Most people who are new to incubating eggs get the media too wet. The other way and egg pops usually happens weeks or months into incubation, and that is when the egg rots and then explodes for the decomposition gases building up inside. You should be able to smell than one before it happens.

You need direct advice from someone who has hatched your species before. Some species need damp media to hatch and others, like Russians, do better with bone dry media and water tubs inside the incubator for humidity.
