Hi everyone, I've had my sulcata tortoise, Bentley since August and was told to use paper towel for bedding, but when can I switch what would you suggest? Thanks!!!

Paper towel? I don't think that would be very good at all. They like to dig and burrow in their substrate. I'm pretty sure my guy would try to eat it too. Alot of people use fine grade orchid bark. If you could post some pictures of your enclosure, you will get a lot of good tips.

That's very good to know. My fiancé and I got here from pet shop and that's what they informed us, however after joining this group we are planning to redo Bentley's home tomorrow after seeing many habitat suggestions.

Pet stores are notorious for giving out bad information on housing and diet. I have a Sulcata to and still have a lot to learn. Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thank you, is there a difference with using cypress mulch or orchid mulch?

I don't really have a whole lot of experience using cypress mulch, but I'm pretty sure someone will be along shortly to help you.

Make sure you use the natural cypress mulch, not the painted or dyed color. Keep it moist for humidity. It needs to be a deep wet, not just misted on top.

I use cypress mulch which can be bought in bulk untreated online. I literally soak it in warm water and throw it in wet. Then once a week dump water around the perimeter to keep it wet. I’m trying orchid bark when my new cage arrives but I love the cypress and it holds up super well.
